Schedule posts
Create Reels, photos and carousels, schedule them up to 90 days ahead, and edit or cancel them before they go out.
Create a post#
Open the composer
Click New post at the top of any dashboard page, or press C.
Choose the creator and the format
Pick the Instagram account, then Reel, Photo or Carousel.
Add the content
Upload new files or pick them from the library. Write the caption (up to 2,200 characters, hashtags and mentions included). The title is internal: only your team sees it.
Pick when it goes out
Choose a date and time. The composer uses your browser’s time zone and suggests one hour from now.
Save
- Schedule queues the post for the chosen time.
- Publish now sends it right away.
- Save draft keeps it without a date and doesn’t use quota.
Scheduling rules#
- You can schedule up to 90 days ahead. There is no minimum delay.
- On a paid plan, you can’t schedule beyond the date your plan is paid until. Renew first, or pick an earlier date.
- Scheduling uses one post from the monthly quota of the scheduled month. See Key concepts.
- Each post keeps its time zone, so a team spread across countries sees the same publishing moment.
Edit or cancel#
You can edit a post while it is a draft, scheduled, failed, blocked or cancelled, as long as it was never sent to Instagram. You can cancel drafts, scheduled, blocked and failed posts; cancelling gives the quota back.
Once a post is Processing or Published, it belongs to Instagram. To change a published post, edit it in the Instagram app.
The calendar#
Calendar shows every scheduled and published post by day, with the creator’s avatar and time. Open a post to see its details, its status and, once published, its Instagram link and statistics.
